AWARE (Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies)
Description: AWARE's mission is to provide safe shelter and support services for women and children who have been subjected to domestic or sexual violence, and to effect the social, political, and legal changes needed to eliminate oppression and violence against women and children. AWARE provides the following services: safe shelter for women and their children for up to thirty days; transportation to the shelter (airfare, ferry fare for the communities serviced by AWARE, and safe rides for Juneau residents); advocacy – compassionate, knowledgeable support, and education for women as well as education and counseling for children. AWARE also provides information about rights and options regarding housing, employment, childcare, Protection Orders, treatment for perpetrators, Public Assistance, family or individual counseling, and personal safety education. AWARE also provides community education on domestic violence and sexual assault upon request.

Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA)
Description: ANDVSA is a statewide coalition composed of programs that provide services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, offender services, and adult crisis intervention services. The purposes of the Network are to provide linkages and communication between the programs, facilitate information sharing, secure funding in a cooperative and non-competitive nature, and to expose the roots of violence against women and children in this culture. Alaska Youth Choir
Description: The Alaska Youth Choir (AYC) currently consists of approximately 30 singers ranging in age from 6 to 18. Formed in 1994 to provide advanced choral opportunities for Juneau children, the mission of AYC is to promote excellence in choral singing and encourage a lifelong learning and enjoyment of music. Choristers study and perform choral music as a group, and have opportunities to perform with community instrumental groups and vocal soloists. AYC members are expected to have a positive attitude, dedication, dependability, focus, team involvement, and a desire to achieve a high level of vocal accomplishment. The Choir performs several annual concerts, including benefits, holiday, and spring performances, and also participates in national and international choral festivals. Annual costs to AYC members include $500 tuition, as well as tour costs and expenses which are not raised through grants or fundraising efforts. Parents and choristers both are expected to participate in fundraising activities and volunteer duties. Limited tuition scholarships are available through the Akiyama Family Fund, based on financial need.

Description: The Southeast Alaska chapter of AEYC-SEA has been providing leadership in early childhood education for over twenty years in Southeast Alaska. Capital Kennel Club of Juneau
Description: The Capital Kennel Club of Juneau (CKCOJ), established in 1989, promotes canine activities and encourages responsible dog ownership. In 1993, CKCOJ became affiliated with the United Kennel Club (UKC) in order to host licensed obedience trials. Twice a year, a weekend of trials is held, drawing both local and visiting exhibitors, and it is open to the public. CKCOJ dogs are involved in a variety of other activities such as tracking and agility, breed conformation shows, and therapy dog certification. CKCOJ is also active in community service via dog training classes, seminars, participating in locally sponsored dog functions, and the personal example of owning well-behaved dogs. New members are welcome and are asked to commit at least eight hours per year assisting in a club activity. This club runs totally on volunteer power! CKCOJ provides canine obedience classes, pet therapy, dog shows, seminars, clinics, information, newsletter, discounts, club library, and videotaping. Several different types of memberships are offered.

Description: Care-A-Van offers door-to-door transportation and errand service to persons with disabilities who are unable to ride the City bus and to anyone age 60 or older. Description: CrossSound is dedicated to 1: Serve Alaskan, American and international creative and interpretative artists in the filed of musical arts, regardless of cultural tradition; 2. Description: The Friends of the Alaska State Museum is a volunteer membership organization with a mission to enhance and support the effectiveness of the Alaska State Museum in its task of collecting, preserving, and interpreting Alaska's rich and diverse cultural heritage for present and future generations. Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries
Description: Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries is a non-profit organization that assists the libraries with special projects. Funds raised by the Friends go toward special gifts and grants to Juneau's three municipal libraries. Friends operate “The Amazing Bookstore” in the Airport Shopping Center. The bookstore offers secondhand books at bargain prices. All profits go to support the Juneau Public Libraries. Friends of Recycling
Description: Friends of Recycling was launched in November 1990 by June Dawson to foster her goal of helping to heal the environment. Friends of Recycling encourages everyone to practice the four R’s: Reduce consumption of natural resources; Reuse materials and items in new ways; Recycle, reprocess, and market recycled goods; Re-buy items that have at least 20% or more post-consumer content. Gastineau Channel Historical Society
Description: The Gastineau Channel Historical Society goals are to instill interest in and preserve the history of the community. The Society operates the Last Chance Mining Museum and the Sentinel Island Lighthouse, provides support for the Juneau-Douglas City Museum, provides volunteer labor for preservation projects, and dispenses information about local history through a quarterly newsletter and publications. The Last Chance Mining Museum was established in 1976 as Juneau’s American Bicentennial project. It provides the community and its visitors with exhibits and materials which document the gold mining history of the Juneau area. The museum was operated from 1976 to 1982 by CBJ and was re-opened in 1995 by the Gastineau Channel Historical Society.

Description: The Gastineau Humane Society's mission is to eliminate cruelty and suffering to animals by promoting compassion and kindness toward domestic and companion animals. We provide shelter for lost, homeless, abandoned, and abused animals while actively seeking loving, permanent homes. Other services include dog licensing, dog boarding, pet grooming facilities by appointment, animal behavior consultants, dog obedience classes, and spay/neuter discount coupons. We work at local and regional levels to offer programs, services, and up-to-date information on animal care. Through the schools and other community groups, we seek to increase public awareness of the problems of animal abuse and overpopulation with projects like KIND News, a four page newspaper for elementary school children, and the First Strike campaign against animal cruelty and domestic violence.

Gastineau Human Services Corporation
Description: Gastineau Human Services (GHS) was established in 1965 by the Juneau Council of Churches to meet the alcohol treatment needs of Southeast Alaska through services centered in Juneau, the regional hub. Incorporated as the Gastineau Council on Alcoholism in 1966, GHS board members immediately mobilized local support for the treatment of alcoholism, resulting in the establishment of Juneau's first halfway house. As the region’s needs have changed over the years, GHS has evolved into an umbrella organization for a number of programs centered around the treatment and the care of society’s marginalized people – the addicted, the homeless, the mentally ill, and those involved in the criminal justice system.

Girl Scouts, Tongass Alaska Council
Description: Girl Scouting is a movement that gives girls from all segments of American life a chance to develop their potential, make friends, and become a vital part of their community. Based on ethical values, Girl Scouting opens up a world of opportunity for girls working in partnership with positive adult volunteers. The Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council welcomes all girls from throughout Southeast Alaska who wish to be Girl Scouts. Age-progressive activities enable girls from diverse backgrounds to develop leadership skills, explore interest areas, learn the value of community service, and learn positive decision making skills. Under the guidance of trained adult volunteers, girls participate in a variety of self-esteem building activities. Glacier Swim Club
Description: Glacier Swim Club (GSC) is a nonprofit organization founded by parents of swimmers in 1973. GSC works in cooperation with CBJ Parks and Recreation to provide a year-round competitive swim program for the youth of Juneau. GSC is partially funded by the citizens of the City and Borough of Juneau through sales tax revenues. GSC provides the remainder of the necessary funding through monthly dues and fund raising. Swimming as a competitive sport is second to none in fostering the development of many valuable life skills. These include work ethic, determination, goal setting, time management, self-improvement, risk taking, team work, sportsmanship, and self-discipline. Glory Hole, The
Description: The Glory Hole is Juneau's 40-bed emergency shelter and soup kitchen. It is an alcohol- and drug-free facility located in downtown Juneau and staffed 24/7/365. In addition to three hot meals a day, The Glory Hole provides the adult homeless community sack lunches for those who are working, laundry facilities and showers for campers, monthly food boxes, a place to make and receive calls, an address to receive mail, and referrals to other social service agencies. In 2004, The Glory Hole provided over 53,000 meals, over 7,300 bed-nights, and over 5,000 other services to Juneau's homeless. This is all done on a budget of less than $180,000, thanks to volunteers from many church and civic groups and the generosity of our community.

Hope Community Resources
Description: Hope Community Resources, Inc. (Hope) is a private, not for profit agency operating in the State of Alaska. Incorporated in 1968, Hope provides services to individuals who experience a disability. The Southeast regional office is located in Juneau, but serves all of Southeast Alaska. During the 2000-2001 year, the regional operations experienced a period of unprecedented growth. This growth has been the result of outreach activity to the small communities located between Ketchikan and Yakutat, as well as the communities of Haines and Skagway. The Juneau operation serves 44 individuals with a wide variety of services and supports in the communities of Juneau, Hoonah, and Petersburg. Working closely with regional Native Corporations, the Juneau office seeks to establish relationships with the Native communities. As a result, many Native children and adults received Medicaid Waiver supports, and Hope was able to employ direct care staff in the individuals' own community. Hope is also in the process of opening its first assisted living home in Juneau and plans on opening at least one more in the upcoming year. Hope is continually growing and is always recruiting and hiring direct service professionals.

Hospice and Home Care of Juneau
Description: Hospice and Home Care of Juneau (HHCJ) is a program of Catholic Community Service. When referred by a physician, patients can receive a variety of health care services at home through HHCJ. Professional services such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and social work are provided to qualified home health patients in conjunction with personal care, when needed, delivered by Certified Nurse Aides. Additionally, HHCJ offers hospice care at home to patients diagnosed with a terminal illness. HHCJ provides the community with several options for addressing bereavement issues related to a loss through death other than our in-home, physician prescribed services. Adult bereavement support groups offered in the fall and spring meet weekly for eight weeks each. Also, at least one children’s and family grief support group is offered annually depending on need.

Housing First, Inc.
Description: Housing First began in 1992 when a handful of Juneau residents became concerned about the lack of affordable housing for single people. The mission of Housing First is too promote affordable housing for individuals and families in the City and Borough of Juneau and elsewhere in Southeast Alaska by: furnishing consulting services; collecting and disseminating information; providing community education and training; acquiring, rehabilitating, constructing, converting, managing, selling, renting, and financing properties for housing; and applying for, receiving, and managing grants, donations, and loans. Housing First has also operated the Home Opportunity Program, which offers no-interest loans to low-to-moderate-income homebuyers. Juneau Community Garden Association
Description: The Juneau Community Garden Association is in its tenth season of operation. Juneau Family Birth Center
Description: The Juneau Family Birth Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing midwifery care to women and their families in our community. In July of 1996, the Juneau Family Birth Center was incorporated as a nonprofit organization to build what had been a long time dream for many families in Juneau and throughout Southeast Alaska; a community birthing center dedicated to the midwifery model of care. Juneau Housing Trust

Juneau Jumpers Foundation, Inc.

Juneau Mountain Rescue
Description: Founded in 1982, Juneau Mountain Rescue, Inc. (JMR) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization specializing in high angle and backcountry search and rescue operations, which are available for State Trooper and other official call-out 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout Alaska. JMR is dedicated to the spirit that well trained and qualified volunteers are a necessary component of the emergency response system for search and rescue activities, urban disasters, and the emergency notifications system. JMR participates in joint training exercises with Eaglecrest Ski Patrol, Capital City Fire/Rescue Special Teams, the Alpine Club, Alaska National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, City of Juneau Urban Avalanche Response Plan, Southeast Alaska Dogs Organized for Ground Search (SEADOGS), and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT/FEMA). Juneau Oratorio Choir
Description: The Juneau Oratorio Choir (JOC) is a community chorus for Juneau. Activities include: preparation for concerts; presentation of events; and choral workshops and performances. JOC has sponsored the Juneau concerts of the Sitka Summer Music Festival for approximately twenty years. JOC has hosted or co-hosted many groups across the years including: the Westminster Choir; the American Boy Choir; the Roger Wagner Chorale; the Vienna Boys Choir; and the Chattanooga Boys Choir. In 1980, with funding from the Juneau Centennial Committee, JOC commissioned noted composer Alice Parker to write "Songs from the Dragon Quilt" based on the poetry of Sheila Nickerson, Alaska poet laureate. Other guest conductors have included Robert Carwithen, Mel Olson, Allen Pote, and John and Helen Kemp.

Juneau Ski Club
Description: The Juneau Ski Club offers ski racing and training programs for Juneau area youth. They hold competitions at the local and state level and a regional competition for the junior team. The Mighty Mite program is for ages 6-12 on Saturday, January through March. The Development Team is for ages 9-12 on Saturday and Sunday, January through March. Juneau Soccer Club
Description: The Juneau Soccer Club (JSC) supports youth soccer in Juneau. Juneau Youth Wrestling Club
Description: Juneau Youth Wrestling Club (JYWC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting all ages and levels of wrestling in Juneau. JYWC teaches youth the importance of physical fitness, hard work, self-reliance, fairness, and team building. JYWC offers youth, middle school, and high school wrestlers opportunities to compete in off-season wrestling events to test and refine their skills. JYWC encourages wrestlers and parents to contribute to the sport by coaching or coordinating other aspects of our program. Financial support is offered to Juneau high school and middle school wrestling programs. JYWC funds are used for travel to competitions for wrestlers and coaches, training facility rent expenses, programs in the high school and middle schools, uniforms and equipment, and local clinics led by quality instructors. Southeast Alaska Food Bank
Description: Southeast Alaska Food Bank (SEAFB) is a private, nonprofit agency dedicated to collecting and distributing food to the hungry in Southeast Alaska. SEAFB collects surplus or unmarketable but still edible food from grocery stores and redistributes it to nonprofit agencies and individuals throughout the area. The 30 nonprofit agencies that receive food from SEAFB include homeless shelters, youth agencies, transitional housing services, domestic abuse shelters, and senior citizen services. St. Vincent de Paul Society
Description: St. Vincent de Paul is dedicated to helping those less fortunate by providing a place to stay and food to eat. Services offered are housing, a soup kitchen, and a thrift shop. The Family Shelter follows a motel type format – residents may come and go as they please. All residents are required to do one hour of chores per day, as well as pay a $10/day plus $5/week charge for rent, if they can afford it. St. Vincent de Paul operates a food assistance program which serves a lunch meal Monday – Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to the residents of the Family Shelter. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., food baskets are distributed to the needy people in the Juneau area. St. Vincent's also distributes special baskets during Thanksgiving and Christmas and operates a thrift store to bring in money and supply residents and others with clothing and other items at a reduced cost.
