Friends of Recycling
Description:
Friends of Recycling was launched in November 1990 by June Dawson to foster her goal of helping to heal the environment. Friends of Recycling encourages everyone to practice the four R’s: Reduce consumption of natural resources; Reuse materials and items in new ways; Recycle, reprocess, and market recycled goods; Re-buy items that have at least 20% or more post-consumer content. Members meet once a month and the membership fee is $20.

Juneau Community Garden Association
Description:
The Juneau Community Garden Association is in its tenth season of operation. Under guidance of the Juneau City and Borough Parks and Recreation Department, the garden has become a community-wide park used to promote outdoor recreation; agricultural experimentation; plant research; and the education, growth, and development of local gardeners. The garden is proud to support the nonprofit activities of ORCA, the Girl Scouts, Healthy Families of Juneau, the Boys and Girls Club, the Juneau Master Gardeners, parent projects for elementary school children, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Several plots have been planted to provide food to the local food banks, and rhubarb has been donated to Helping Hands and a Harborview School project.

Juneau International Hostel
Description:
The Juneau International Hostel provides simple overnight accommodations: dormitory sleeping; cooking facilities; showers; and laundry. There is a five night stay limit. No pets, smoking, drinking, or illegal drugs. Winter hours are 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 to 10:30 p.m. Summer hours are 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 to 12:00 midnight. No admittance under any circumstances during off hours. The fee per night is $10 plus a small cleaning job.

PFLAG Juneau
Description:
PFLAG stands for Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. PFLAG Juneau was founded in 1995 by several local parents and is one of more than 500 chapters nationally. PFLAG Juneau promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex persons, their families, and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an often ill-informed public, and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. PFLAG Juneau sponsors the Juneau Pride Chorus, a women's chorus of excellence that joins together the love of singing with the celebration of diversity.
