The Alaska Library Association is a nonprofit, professional organization for the employees, volunteers, and advocates of libraries of all sizes and types in Alaska and for library product and service vendors. Friends of the Alaska State Museum
Description:
The Friends of the Alaska State Museum is a volunteer membership organization with a mission to enhance and support the effectiveness of the Alaska State Museum in its task of collecting, preserving, and interpreting Alaska's rich and diverse cultural heritage for present and future generations. The Friends support the Museum by: sponsoring cultural and educational programs and events; recruiting and managing volunteer support; producing publications, catalogs, exclusive museum products, educational information kits, videos, and films relating to special exhibits and themes of the permanent collection; hosting receptions for exhibit openings and other events; purchasing artifacts and artwork for the museum’s collection; providing educational interpretation to the public through management of the Museum Store; and assisting with special projects as requested by the museum. Membership benefits include free admission for the member and a guest to the Alaska State Museum in Juneau and the Sheldon Jackson Museum in Sitka, a discount at the museum stores, a Friends newsletter, educational opportunities and invitations to exhibition openings and special events. Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries
Description:
Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries is a non-profit organization that assists the libraries with special projects. Funds raised by the Friends go toward special gifts and grants to Juneau's three municipal libraries. Friends operate “The Amazing Bookstore” in the Airport Shopping Center. The bookstore offers secondhand books at bargain prices. All profits go to support the Juneau Public Libraries. Friends also sponsor the annual summer reading program, the annual bookmark contest, and the Authors-to-Juneau series. Supporting and active memberships are available. Supporting members (unless they request otherwise) will be listed among those who financially support our public libraries. Active members volunteer to participate in various Friends activities. Your membership admits you to Preview Nights at the famous Friends Book Sales and entitles you to a 10% discount on all books at The Amazing Bookstore.

Gastineau Channel Historical Society
Description:
The Gastineau Channel Historical Society goals are to instill interest in and preserve the history of the community. The Society operates the Last Chance Mining Museum and the Sentinel Island Lighthouse, provides support for the Juneau-Douglas City Museum, provides volunteer labor for preservation projects, and dispenses information about local history through a quarterly newsletter and publications. The Last Chance Mining Museum was established in 1976 as Juneau’s American Bicentennial project. It provides the community and its visitors with exhibits and materials which document the gold mining history of the Juneau area. The museum was operated from 1976 to 1982 by CBJ and was re-opened in 1995 by the Gastineau Channel Historical Society.

Gastineau Genealogical Society
Description:
The Gastineau Genealogical Society is a non-profit, non-dues-paying Society (see Charter & Bylaws) operating in accordance with IRS 302(C). The Society meets informally to help each other with genealogical research projects. Monthly meetings are held September through May, except December. Meetings are held at the Family History Center. All interested persons are welcome.
