2025 Scholarship Recipients

The Alma Harris Scholarship Fund Endowment honors the incredible work of Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé English teacher, Alma Harris (2023). During her years teaching, Alma created deep connections with her students in and outside of the classroom. She was a true mentor, even having students drop by her home if they needed extra help with essays or simply wanted to talk.

This annual scholarship awards one student $10,000 towards their post-secondary education or vocational school.

The Selection Committee is proud to announce Lincoln Razor as this year’s recipient of the Alma Harris Scholarship. Lincoln will attend the University of Alaska Southeast.

On May 12th, the Hather Family Scholarship Fund awarded $15,000 in scholarships to nine Skagway students. Graduates from previous years received $2,000, and graduating seniors received $1,000.

Evelyn Borst – $1,000
Adalia Deach – $2,000
Charles Deach – $2,000
Chloe Miller – $2,000
Landon Rodig – $1,000
Tatum Sager – $2,000
Athena Smith – $2,000
Kaitlyn Tronrud – $1,000
Jessica Whitehead – $2,000

The Hather Family Scholarship Selection Committee noted, “We consider it a privilege to be involved with this. We know that Don and Betty would be overjoyed to learn how many students they can help.  This exceeds the vision they had for this scholarship and serves as the perfect testament to their generosity.”

This fund was established at the Foundation in 2024 to support youth in the Skagway community.

Established at the Foundation in 2020, the Bob and Darlene (Phelps) Stutte Family Scholarship Fund is designed to support students in need of a “kickstart.” High school seniors, GED recipients, or graduates up to two years are encouraged to apply, and the scholarship can be used for pursuing post-secondary education or a vocational or technical education.

This year’s recipients are Lincoln Razor and Allison Hoy. Both will receive $2,000 towards their studies. Lincoln will attend the University of Alaska Southeast, and Allison Hoy will attend the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The Simon & Anna Kirk Memorial Scholarship Fund was established with the Juneau Community Foundation by Michael Kirk in 2013 in honor of his parents. Michael wanted to support students in the district who consistently put forth their best effort, show consideration for others, and exhibit trustworthiness.

This year, scholarships have been awarded to 2025 Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé graduates, Pacific Ricke, and Carvin Hass.

Each will receive $1,750 per year for up to four years, towards their studies.
