From discussions with organizations, churches, and agencies that help feed children in need in Juneau, the Foundation quickly realized that major gaps in food assistance for students existed and started raising funds from our wonderful donors. First up was providing vacation food boxes for students.
With the holidays approaching, the Foundation in partnership with the Juneau School District students and personnel, Super Bear IGA, United Way of Southeast Alaska, and U.S. Coast Guard Sector Juneau and District 17 purchased food and on December 17th, coordinated the distribution of food for 480 local children and their families, ensuring they have extra food over the long winter school break.
All of this was made possible by the wonderful challenge grant from the Benito and Frances C. Gaguine Foundation and generous donors who have contributed to the Feeding Juneau Kids campaign.
