Book Hook Fund is a donor-advised fund founded by an investor in Alaskan Brewing Co. who spent much of his younger years in libraries. He created this Fund in 2020 with a focus on grants for libraries in small rural Alaska communities (5,000 or less people). From Southeast Alaska to Nome, the Book Hook Fund has provided $36,400 in funds to over thirty rural Alaskan libraries. Grants range from $500-$1,000 and can be used to purchase reading materials for the public- books and periodicals, or software. The application period typically opens in early October and is due by Halloween.
The grant funds are for library materials — books, magazines, software — that will be circulated or made available to the public. This does not include consumables or prizes for library programs. The grant is not for hardware, salaries, utilities, or supplies.
The 2025 grant application period is currently closed. All 2025 grant recipients must send proof of purchase of materials (receipts) to the Book Hook Committee by May 31, 2026.
