Update: The robes are almost complete, and we are no longer accepting donations to the fund. Many thanks to all who contributed to this important project.
“We request that you help us raise $16,000 to cover materials and supplies for this Pride Robe project.
We come to weaving with a prayer of gratitude for the practice left in our care, in honor of where we were born, and the teachers who led us to this work. We weave for identity, for healing, for community, for strength of spirit and mind. The work is bigger than self, and creates lasting, positive change in the community.
This proposed “Weaving Our Pride “ Ravenstail Youth Pride Robe will be created together by Native, non-Native, queer, straight, cis-gender, transgender, allies, and all identities youth to sit side by side for one year, to finish the Ravenstail Robe by Celebration 2024. It will be woven on the premises at Zach Gordon Youth Center (ZGYC).
The robe will live at the ZGYC as a permanent wearable art piece, to be worn by only youth, during SHI’s biennial Celebration, graduations, new-names parties, coming out parties, and significant Native and non-Native Pride events.
We appreciate your generous and enthusiastic support of our youth, our arts, and our cultures.”
