John Pugh is the retired Chancellor of the University of Alaska Southeast, where he worked for 26 years. He also spent 15 years working in health and social services, which culminated in his appointment by Governor Bill Sheffield as Commissioner of the department. John served on numerous local and state boards and commissions throughout his career. He was a founding board member of the Mental Health Trust and served on the board for 11 years including three as Chair. He also served 19 years as a Director of the University of Alaska Foundation. He recently helped with the start-up of the Juneau Park Foundation and serves as Vice Chair of the board. John and his wife, Margaret, moved to Juneau in 1978 from Anchorage. They raised two children in Juneau and enjoy spending time with their four granddaughters.
