We are pleased to offer OFFICE HOURS this year to better assist those interested in applying for an award. Please use this link to schedule a time to talk with us about the Arts Vibrancy Endowment Artist Awards.
Overview
The Arts Vibrancy Endowment was established and funded by community members who believe that the health of the arts is dependent on growing artists and providing an opportunity for them to share their art with the community. Through the Arts Vibrancy Endowment, we are pleased to provide the Artist Awards grant program, which is dedicated to the development of artists in their pursuit of the creation of original works by fostering the creative process that produces their vision. Annually, the Foundation awards individual artists, groups, or collaborations to support their work. Awards are made directly to the applicant. All art forms and idioms, including but not limited to visual arts, dance, music, fabric arts, photography, theater, and literary arts, are eligible for funding.
Grant Guidelines
Artists may apply for an award for a specific, short-term project that has clear benefits to the artist and the development of their work. Artists at any career stage may apply for Project Awards. Awards must be used for a specific activity or opportunity that will be accomplished within one year of the award date. Examples might include travel and fees associated with workshops and other advanced study opportunities; professional documentation of an artist’s work for submission to juried shows or galleries; and costs associated with the creation/installation of work scheduled for public viewing. Cost-of-living expenses may be included, but applicants should clearly explain how this would allow them to accomplish their project goals.
Who May Apply
– Only individuals, groups, or collaboratives living in Juneau are eligible. If you are a member of a group or collaboration, you may apply under the following conditions:
– Only one individual from the group may apply as the primary applicant and will represent the group through the application process.
– Collaborations must agree internally on the individual who will apply on their behalf and will represent the collaboration through the application process.
Awards are to enable an artist(s) to achieve a specific objective (e.g., performance, show, display, etc.) or bring an artist to Juneau to teach a class or skill.
Artists may apply for the Artist Awards if they meet the following eligibility requirements:
- You must be a full-time Juneau resident, living in the City and Borough of Juneau for the past two years at the time of your application, and remain a resident for the duration of the grant period.
- You must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
- You must currently be producing work.
- Past Individual Artist Award recipients who have received their award more than two years ago and who have completed all reporting requirements are eligible.
Artists are NOT eligible to apply if they are:
- A student enrolled in any degree-seeking program related to the arts at any educational level.
- A current or former board member, committee member, staff member, or consultant for the Juneau Community Foundation, a current advisory member, or any member of a current advisor’s immediate family.
- Individuals whose work or project is primarily of a research, scholarly, or commercial nature.
- Artists who have received this award in the two prior years.

Grant Evaluation
Grants will be made directly to the applicant by mid-September for use within the following year. Before award funds may be disbursed, Arts Vibrancy Endowment Artist Award recipients will fill out a W9 and sign a grant agreement that details the one-year award period and the requirement to submit a final project report describing their accomplishments and the importance of the award to their ongoing artistic and career development, and a budget report detailing expenses as related to the budget submitted with the application.
Failure to submit a final report could result in the artist’s ineligibility for future grant opportunities.
How to Apply
The application period is CURRENTLY OPEN. Applicants may apply using the Word or PDF application, or, new this year, we are also offering the option to complete a Google form.
